HealthLight FAQ's

Infared Terapy and Diabetes
Increase Circulation

What is HealthLight™?

HealthLight™ is a photo-modulated (pulsed, light emitting diodes) device also known as low-level light therapy (LLLT). The infrared and visible red LEDs are the heart of the HealthLight™ Therapy systems, providing gentle but powerful non-coherent light.

What is LED Light Therapy?

After decades of research found that certain wavelengths of light within the red, blue and infrared bands were very beneficial to living tissue. Light therapy is currently being used in clinical and home settings around the world. Light therapy has been in use by the medical profession to increase circulation and reduce pain and inflammation for more than 20 years. Its growing acceptance has become more abundant as research continues into the many ways light therapy can help.

Can you explain LED lights and color?

LED light therapy describes the color in terms of the wavelength of the LED's. The wavelength is measured in nanometers (nm). The human eye sees wavelengths as colors. Infrared is outside of the visible spectrum and cannot be seen by the human eye.

Can anyone use LED Light Therapy?

An individual can use the HealthLight™ equipment safely without medical supervision at home or be treated by a health professional in a clinic setting. The sessions are completely non-invasive. As is the case with most modalities, if you are pregnant or taking any medications that cause light sensitivity, consult with your physician regarding the use of any light therapy system.

What does it feel like when using HealthLight?

HealthLight™ creates a comforting, warm feeling with the pads.

Light energy:
  • Dilates the blood vessels locally, causing an increase in circulation (blood flow)
  • Stimulates warmth that may reduce and alleviate pain. Many users get so relaxed they actually fall asleep

Additionally, patients and clients may experience:
  • Pain relief
  • Decreased tension
  • Decreased inflammation
  • Decrease in local swelling
  • Increase in range of motion
  • Increased lymphatic drainage
  • Decreased muscle spasms and tightness
  • Increased venous dilation and blood flow
  • Improvement in peripheral neuropathy symptoms

How does HealthLight™ increase circulation?

The infrared light energy releases nitric oxide from hemoglobin and endothelial cells.  Nitric oxide is a signaling molecule that relaxes smooth muscle cells found in the arteries, veins, and lymph vessels. When these muscles relax, the vessels dilate, thus allowing increased circulation. Visualize the difference in diameter between a straw and a hose.

How often can the lights be used?

You can use the lights up to 3 times a day in the same area, but you should allow a few hours between treatments if you are treating the same location to let the area rest.

Can I be harmed by using HealthLight™ Infrared Light therapy systems?

No.

Who uses HealthLight™?

HealthLight™ is used both professionally in clinics and by people at home as an effective, non-abrasive, non-invasive and restorative part of their continuing therapy.

Professionals use HealthLight™ in their clinical practices to treat a multitude of ailments. Some of the many professionals using HealthLight™ include:
  • Dentists
  • Physicians
  • Podiatrists
  • Estheticians
  • Home Health
  • Chiropractors
  • Physical Therapy
  • Registered Nurses
  • Massage Therapists
  • Occupational Therapists

What is the difference between an LED and a low level laser?

Both contain diodes (a small light with two wires connected to a filament inside) that can be made of the same materials, usually silicon with specific minerals added in specific amounts to produce different colors. In lasers, the diode is mounted in a well-shaped area (like a small tin can with one end removed) that is lined with reflective materials that sends, generally, only one wavelength of light. The result is a narrow beam of light that is concentrated into a beam, referred to as “coherent” light.  However, when using low power levels (soft lasers) the light energy does not remain coherent and scatters when it hits the skin. This is given as the explanation why LED’s and low level laser devices have similar healing effects. Most low level (or cold) lasers have a total output of about 100 mw. The HealthLight 3 pad system output is over 17,000 mw. More power generally increases beneficial nitric oxide release and shortens treatment times. Lasers must be used under medical supervision in a clinic.  LED Infrared Light therapy can be used as unattended therapy, in a clinic or a home.
